Mother’s day is all about celebrating the women in our lives who support us, not just the one who gave us life. In my case, I have three moms. The one I’m biologically linked, my first step-mom, who helped raise me during my tumultuous teens. And my current stepmother who is my dad’s best friend.

All of these women, plus a few long-time friends are the women I make an effort to at the least call to acknowledge their sacrifices as a parent, on mother’s day. Many years I struggled with the concept. It felt like a manufactured, guilt induced, gift giving event spun quite craftily by advertisers. And they have done a masterful job. Somewhere along life’s path, I refined my definition of mother’s day.

Yes, a gift or two doesn’t hurt. What I have learned is being there year-round when she is feeing blue is what matters most. Every human gets down sometimes, even the most intelligent, confident and well-rounded. Continuing on the thought thread, I eventually put real life experiences together with an odd (to me) phenomenon.

A successful man traditionally, is an important trait, single women seek. She understands, a primal instinct a confident, self-assured male is more attractive. The opposite doesn’t hold true. Men are very good at portraying power, until an alpha arrives. It is…
