Urban Hikes — New Orleans — Chapter 1

The crescent city is a about as American as it gets. A cultural mix tape. Spanish, Native, French and Post Colonial American, converge and the resulting mix is Creole, a large segment of the local population. The remainder are all part of the colorful fabric of this one-of-a-kind table flat city.
A poke at stale regional rivalries, famous playwright and author Tennessee Williams quipped, “America has only three cities: New York, San Francisco, and New Orleans. Everywhere else is Cleveland”.
His comment might ruffle feathers. The comment points out, there are few large American cities that have a one-of-a-kind atmosphere about them. The deep south city is one of the three. Ask around, survey your friends, neighbors, randoms on the sidewalk, it’s likely the majority will name one or all three cities on their bucket list or favorite places to visit.
No disparaging all towns across the nation, they too have their uniqueness and deserve some love. Now, how ‘bout that unofficial Cajun Capitol? Let’s mosey on down south y’all.
