History is a mildly popular subject in compulsory schooling. It’s not as practical as math, physics or language, or is it? History is rife with examples we continually learn from in contemporary times. For example; the Dark Ages, a world called so because the “light” of civilization was extinguished. It wasn’t the only period when humanity suffered a lengthy period of desperate times, there were previous dark ages in the ancient world, eventually humankind clawed its way out. The destroyed Roman Empire caused many former citizens to lose their livelihood, or lose land given by the state. The era was also a low period in the evolution of technology. The infrastructure capable of supporting advancements in science, literature, technology and the arts, was dismantled by the chaos and anarchy following the collapse of Rome. During the gloomy period a pestilence of disease took the lives of up to 50% to 60% of some city’s populations. Astonishing facts we can read about today. A wave of various events led up to the demise of the historically significant Roman empire.
