Half a dozen and still traveling. Here’s the first international episode. Our travels are going tropical. The West Indies conjure images, swaying palms, ghosts of pirates, colorful sights, sounds and foods. Dotted by hundreds of islands, the sea is home to dozens of distinct cultures and histories. A common thread throughout the region, visitors experience the nautical life, slipping from port to port, in search of something possibly unattainable or impossible. Hard Bargain, Bahamas
More than one locale is branded Hard Bargain in the Bahamian Archipelago. The quirky name has more than one origin story. A popular version, the early explorers described bartering with the indigenous peoples as, “hard bargainers”. A simple explanation.
Narrowing down to one location in the Caribbean, what to do around Hard Bargain? Andros Island, one of the larger islands in the country, is where to find this tough negotiator. At the northern end of the island, where the natives once suckered those weary travelers, marvel at the blue holes scattered in the area.
