No Hotel Required. How to Travel and Save on Hotel Stays Part. 1

A big chunk of travel budget often is spent on a place to stay, hotel, motel, yurt, cabin et.al. A lot of us aren’t willing to give up the plush robes, fancy soaps and lotions to stay in motel or a glamping experience. And that’s okay. I will admit, the occasions I choose a luxury hotel is just the right choice. A well-appointed hotel room sometimes is just what suits the occasion.

What other options exist? Sure, Airbnb and VRBO are viable options. The most desirable spaces are often booked months out. For those who might have less lead time to plan a vacation and prefer the short-term owner leased properties, the longer one waits, the less inventory there will be to pick an ideal property.

When traveling to resort towns, property managers could be an option as well. Having stayed in small cottage-style rentals the same issue applies, it’s common for these rentals to be reserved in advance six months and longer. People who like to visit the same destination year after year will often rent the same property, in effect a private time-share of sorts.
