Migration…Let’s Talk About It
Humans and animals instinctually migrate. The dawn of humanity, our common ancestors did so to survive. Tracking game herds across vast plains, through dense forest and parched desert wastes. Eventually humans learned animal husbandry. Learned how to cultivate crops and to settle colonies. Colonies evolved into towns, towns into cities.
Despite the ability to live in one location, an ancient instinct pushed some people to explore. Be curious. Before written history, peoples traveled thousands of miles in search of a better climate, surroundings or escape tyranny. The pattern continues.
Adventurous souls carry on the tradition whether it is intended to soothe wanderlust or escape a harsh life. Whatever the reason, we still find excitement and value leaving our native places to grow and experience other nations, cultures and climates.
Reflecting on the agreed history of the United States, it is a nation built on the backs of immigration, forced and by choice. For those who were born here, it is a distorted lens. In my youth, we were taught our nation was the pinnacle of global society. The most equitable and free place to live in the world. There is some truth in that statement.
American greatness is constructed by selecting the best/strongest/wisest inventions and cultural traditions beyond our shores and importantly…
