Deep Tracks — Radio Misfits 19 — Under the Radar Bands Phase II
There are vast galaxies of bands who are radio ready and understandably aren’t getting radio air play. It is daunting to scour music libraries let alone the limitless volume of groups lingering in radio land obscurity. Many of these groups have several albums to their credit, tour in non-descript cargo vans, toil loading in and loading out, in between loitering near the loading entrance to funky venues across the world. Their creativity, sweat and labor deserve the audience’s attention.
A follow up to a first crack at band’s putting out songs that radio is either bypassing for personal reasons or haven’t found that airwave champion to give the listeners fresh songs. Here we go!
1. We Are Scientists — Callbacks
A curious band name conjures images of bookish lads projecting a “Revenge of the Nerds” esthetic. No Devo impressionists or spikey haired violinist in this band. A bit deceptive. The alt/post punk trio put out their debut album in 2006. Since, they have soldiered on. Eight albums in their catalog to date. Originally from California, the trio relocated to Brooklyn, NY before landing a record deal. Their first two albums charted in the U.K. Stateside the band toils on in relative obscurity.
