Road trips bring the pages of a great story to life. Reading Huckleberry Finn to Eat, Pray, Love exemplifies the writer’s ability to describe a faraway place geographically (such as the latter) or time (such as the former). There’s something supernatural about reading a story and then visiting, exploring the landscapes, colors, and sounds of faraway places.
Traveling and book shops are a natural pair. A life long road trip taker, somewhere along my journeys, the unused minutes found me browsing (usually) ambient lit book shops around the nation.
In between the museums, food trucks, sporting events and live music there were still idle moments. Unless it is an unusually physically taxing day, the thought of laying up in a hotel room seemed a poor use of quality time in a distant town.
